The small moments that mean everything
Not every story ends with recovery. But every patient deserves dignity, kindness, and moments of peace along the way.
Mairéad Leahy remembers her godmother Irene with deep affection. Irene spent time receiving care at St Luke’s during a brave and determined battle with cancer before she passed away in August 2024.
What stayed with her family were not only the treatments – but the human moments. Time spent outdoors in the hospital gardens. Fresh air on difficult days. Friendships formed with staff and other patients. The freedom to step outside and feel, even briefly, like herself again.
Mairéad shared: “The care she received was exceptional. She was supported with kindness, compassion and dignity, and our family will always be deeply grateful.”
In Irene’s memory, Mairéad has completed a 100km horseback ride – honouring her godmother with every mile while thanking St Luke’s for the care that meant so much.
These stories show the true impact of your generosity. Because while medical treatment fights cancer, compassionate environments help people endure it. And that is exactly what your support makes possible.
