Lorraine and her brother Mark at the start of their 700km Paris2Nice charity cycle – riding in gratitude for the care she received

When treatment ends… gratitude often begins

Lorraine Pollitt understands just how life-changing your support can be. In November 2023, Lorraine was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. What followed was a whirlwind familiar to so many patients – appointments, uncertainty, surgery, and treatment. In January 2024 she underwent major surgery, followed by radioactive iodine treatment at St Luke’s.

She describes the experience as a rollercoaster of emotions. And then, in November 2024, came the news she had hoped for: a clear scan.

Relief. Gratitude. A chance to look forward again.

But Lorraine’s journey didn’t simply end there.

Instead, she chose to give back.

Together with her brother Mark, she committed to cycling an extraordinary 700 kilometres across six days in the Paris2Nice charity cycle – all to raise funds for patients she may never meet, but whose experiences she understands deeply.

She told us: “The Friends of St Luke’s help ensure people have access to the care and technology they need when facing cancer. By raising funds, we can make sure St Luke’s remains a place of hope and support for others beginning their own battles.”

Lorraine’s story reminds us of something powerful: cancer treatment is not only about medicine. It is about reassurance. Compassion. And knowing that someone cares enough to make the experience better.

Very often, that “someone” is you.
