Daryl

From Cancer Diagnosis to Life-saving Inspiration

His diagnosis at just 23 years old was terrifying: glioma brain tumour. A tumour for which there is currently no cure. Surgeries and chemotherapy, and specialised radiation at St Luke’s thanks to your kind support, have kept Daryl here to tell his story. And here to launch a local brand of beanies with a lifesaving message.

The headaches were intense. Persistent. And somehow Daryl just felt – off. But at an active age of 23, he also shook off what he now knows were warning signs from his body. Then two years ago Daryl’s inner misgivings were confirmed. He was diagnosed with a glioma brain tumour, for which researchers are still trying to find a cure. The quest to keep him alive meant surgeries, chemotherapy, and intense radiation – a journey that thanks to your support for The Friends of St Luke’s was also filled with expert, uplifting care and profound human kindness.

Giving back, beanie by beanie

Today, Daryl is giving back for all the care he received. He’s launched a local brand of beanies called Sense of Tumour with a portion of proceeds that contribute to The Friends of St Luke’s and brain cancer research, and carry a life-saving message.

“My mission is to create a brand that raises awareness about brain tumours and the importance of listening to your body,” says Daryl.

The logo on his beanies as well is more than a design, he adds. “It’s a reminder to anyone who sees it: If you’re not feeling well, don’t ignore it. Go to the doctor.”
Thank you for supporting cancer care, research, and community at St Luke’s.
