Patient Transport – Connecting Care Across St Luke’s Centres

The Friends of St Luke’s have funded two minibuses providing a vital transport service between St Luke’s Hospital in Rathgar and the centres in Beaumont and St James’s Hospital.

These buses now make over 120 trips each month, helping patients get to and from their radiotherapy appointments safely and reliably. For many, this service is not just a convenience —it’sessential to accessing treatment.

As driver Tristan explains:
“St Luke’s sponsors the bus I drive, and without that Ican’treally do anything. There are plenty of patients that rely on the bus every day.”

For patients already coping with the challenges of cancer treatment, transport can be a major barrier. The minibuses remove that worry, ensuring patients arrive on time and can focus on their care.

Tristan sees the impact every day:
“Every dayI’mpicking up people that would be lost without the bus. Without that support, theywouldn’tbe able to get in for treatment.I’veseen people try to manage on their own and struggle — then the Friends step in, and it makesa big difference.”

This is a powerful example of how donor support fills critical gaps in care — providing practical help that makes treatment more accessible, less stressful, and more humane.
