In 2025, The Friends of St Luke’s fundedHypersight, an advanced imaging system now in use at St Luke’s Radiation Oncology Network (SLRON) in Rathgar.
Thanks to this investment, patients arebenefitingfrom faster, clearer imaging during radiotherapy. This means less time on the treatment couch, more comfortable procedures, and greater precision in how treatment is delivered.
For some patients, the difference is immediate. Those undergoing treatment for abdominal tumours often need to hold their breath during imaging —Hypersightmakes this quicker and easier.
It also improves image quality for patients with metal implants, allowing clinical teams to see more clearly and plan treatment with greater confidence.
Importantly, this technology is already improving efficiency across the service. Treatment times for some patients have reduced by almost 15%, allowing more patients to be treated each day and helping to ease pressure on busy schedules.
Hypersightis also opening the door to future advances in radiotherapy, supporting more flexible and responsive treatment planning.
This is a clear example of how donor support is directly improving patient experience, enhancing care, and increasing capacity for those who need it most.
