Message from outgoing Chairman - David O'Halloran 16/11/2009
I have enjoyed the challenges presented as Chairman and through working with the Board, staff and many friends, much has been achieved over the last twelve years in supporting the treatment ,care and comfort of cancer patients. It has given me much personal satisfaction to have been able to make a contribution of my time in leading the Friends to develop and deliver on our strategy during the good times and the challenging times in fundraising for St. Luke’s.
For me, the rewards have been even greater, as I have met an extensive network of Friends throughout the length and breath of Ireland who contribute their time and enthusiasm to raising funds .This is a truly great testament to the national recognition of St. Luke’s as a centre of excellence where so many of our loved ones have benefited from the special experience that is St. Luke’s.
I have been continually overwhelmed by the generosity of so many people in giving of their time willingly in support of the fundraising efforts of St. Luke’s. This has allowed us remain at the forefront of developments in delivering cancer services in Ireland and giving the professionals at the hospital the vital support that they need in treating cancer sufferers. We have also been able to provide access to the most modern treatment equipment at many times when funds were not forthcoming from the Department of Health.
It is not my intention to resign from the Friends Council and I hope to play an active role in supporting Peter , the Council and all the staff to continue the valuable work of the Friends.
We have a great team and I have no doubt that the Board and the staff of The Friends will continue to support the Hospital in every way possible. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Board and management of the hospital for the courtesy shown to me during my term as Chairman and I wish Peter every success in carrying on our vital and rewarding work.
With kindest personal regards to all our Friends
I remain,
yours sincerely,
DAVID O’HALLORAN
